Re: bike thread
hey bike guys.. anybody have a good solution for a (Kryptonite) U-Lock bracket that doesn't suck? Mine snapped off while riding the other day - and the only ones i find for sale are the flexframe ones which everybody says doesn't stay secure ever.

Re: bike thread
I attached mine to the top tube, duct-taped it in place, and attached a thing to allow the bendy part of the U to clip to the down tube... quite a lot of effort input but it works

Re: bike thread
have you ever seen or rode one of those? i haven't, and I'm very curious. I use a 2-speed coaster brake and 5 speed freewheel new sturmey archer. I'm not going to go back to external gears unless its campy or dura ace shit that is rock solid.

Re: bike thread
Those kind of bikes are pretty standard in Europe as "city bikes" or "trekking bikes" if you plan to ride as well long distances out of the city. Seriously, they are good for what they are meant to.
P.S., Internal hub gears are good for the city.
Edit: Except if you live in San Francisco

Re: bike thread
lots of people started going back to them over here within the last 10 years as they realized that mountain bikes are stupid for the city.

Fact #7
From an empirical viewpoint, the problem with Free Will (and causality) is reconciling determinism and freedom to make sense of morality.

Re: bike thread
the front tilting up like that seems weird, but then I have mine at the opposite extreme so exclusively my butt rests on the seat... instead of my groin ?
perhaps that seat angle has other advantages I don't know about
eddit: some research confirms that brooks saddles work better "nose up" so I guess I am less perplexed

Re: bike thread
I like my seat as close to horizontal as possible, and slightly back from where KOPS would tell me to put it, probably about 1/4 to 1/2 inch which is pretty far. Your seat angle is kind of edtreme man.

Re: bike thread
Over the past two rainy weekends I stripped down my Snipes hardtail and started putting all the parts onto my(our) old Jamis hardtail. Switched out the headset, stem, handlebars, gear shifters, brake shifters, rear rim, bottom bracket, crankset, took off the bash guard and added back a large chain ring, tubes & tires (fucking hate doing that), rear derailleur. Everything is set up except the derailleurs. For some reason I just turn into a JOFA when I try to set them up. How could turning two screws become so complicated for me?

Re: bike thread
Changed out some parts on the old Jamis frame that we had. I took most of the downhill parts I had on my Snipes and put them on here. Hopefully I'll get out and ride a bit this year.

Re: bike thread
So today I was going to strip the decals from my Cove STD and replace them - I had the old-style Cove logo on there that looks like a highschool kid drew it for his friends' Metal band, and I'd bought this pretty expensive decal set with the new logo. Turns out... I like it better with no decals at all.

shit is like $800 - and you can't even ride it anywhere because of the liability - I wonder what level of yuppster buys this? it's literally only good for trips where your only goal is making animated GIFs, which is strangely appropriate I suppose?guardianoftheblind wrote:
