Death Industrial - Dark Ambient - PE

Post by Bored001 »

Anyway, let's start this off on a somewhat "official" basis?

V/A - Death Odors - the first classic comp:

DL: http://rapidshare.com/files/288270958/V ... ctuarY.rar <--

V/A - Death Odors II: (there are at least two different versions of this)

http://sickness-still-abounds.blogspot. ... death.html <--

DL: http://rapidshare.com/files/288281157/V ... ctuarY.rar <--

And then expand outwards/inwards from the artists featured. For example, one of the classics, mastered at a very low volume (for some weird reason), so turn it up loud, beautiful atmospheres:

The original:

Archon Satani - Virgin Birth (1993)

I know, absolutely horribly cover art...don't judge a book, etc.

I briefly checked out Archon Satani and am downloading it right now.

It seems like this is where Culted got a lot of their sound from.

HOW DO YOU START A THREAD WHERE THE FIRST WORD OF THE FIRST SENTENCE IS "ANYWAY"

Re: Death industrial/dark ambient

This thread has been done before...but I'm in the mood to systematically go through stuff and archive as I'm really a fan of this type of music/this genre. I know many other people here are too. MPD, EE, etc.

I would do so (post) now...but honestly I've drunk too much whiskey and I ate a giant plate of penne and I'm about to fall asleep at the wheel. Tomorrow!

Hmmm...but that first Death Odors comp is excellent to sleep to, I'm going to put it on...one way ticket to sleepyland...

More inspired work, managing to transcend the work of Genocide Organ (not hard to do), for example, and in a very eloquent manner.

Going back to the Death Odors series of comps, an artist most of you will be familiar with:

Megaptera

(linked to Archon Satani and Inanna, of course)

http://www.discogs.com/artist/Megaptera
http://hem.passagen.se/salome/ (talk about ancient websites)

Megaptera - The Curse Of The Scarecrow

Blogsource: http://black-interior.blogspot.com/2010 ... -1998.html
DL: http://hotfile.com/dl/61486271/cd5ad55/ ... 9.zip.html <-- (but this is easy to find)

Megaptera - Beyond The Massive Darkness

Image

"CD1 is a reissue of Songs From The Massive Darkness (Megaptera's first LP); Mastered by P. Andersson (Raison d'être)
CD2 is a remixed version of Beyond The Shadow (Megaptera's first CD) with two new versions of tracks from The Curse Of The Scarecrow CD."

Bored001 wrote: This is the music of our age. Why? It accepts the realities of absolute skepticism, the teachings of Auschwitz, and then it spins poetry off of that: lesson learned, even as we all give into some silly/stupid apocalypse, music will still be made...

But in reality, the essence of it is: this is the music of our everyday reality, what we usually ignore...the bonegrinding black and white genocide chaos that supports our OCD bleached clean existence. It's pure in its horror, its colors, in the sounds and worlds it allows. It's absolutely gorgeous, please embrace it, learn from it, join in...this is what we are...

I don't know why I wrote the above. No one cares.

Anyway:

Nordvargr

http://www.discogs.com/artist/Henrik+No ... =Nordvargr
http://www.nordvargr.com/
http://www.nordvargr.com/disco.html

Most of you know about this guy. He has released so much material under so many names that it's useless trying to get some kind of "representative sample." Everyone will have their favorite albums.

Nordvargr - Resignation 2

Resignation was originally a project separate/distinct from Nordvargr but his partner dropped out...so he just released this second LP under the Nordvargr name. This is a nice combination of drone, slowly building melodies (they sound like samples from classical music distorted and slowed down, but they're probably just the usual synth drones), pseudo-glitch stuff, samples + beats. All together it's very relaxing and nice to listen to when you're having your morning coffee, for example. Limited to 200, apparently.

DL: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9UMUKLML <--
Pass: rbk

Nordvargr - Interstellar/Interstellar 2

Image

There are two versions of this original recording...the album + bonus material.

Deep, dark outer space drone/atmospheres.

Sources:

http://colorsofthedark.blogspot.com/200 ... lar-2.html
http://aberrantsounds.blogspot.com/2008 ... -2008.html

DL: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9L2NI7BG <-- this is the version Nordvargr put up himself for downloading.

Nordvargr, every now and then, just gets sick of going through labels, even his own, and throws up stuff for DL or on his own torrents. IMO his work varies widely as to quality but it's usually fun/interesting to listen to. I think I own all of his CDs now...some of them weren't exactly easy to track down.

Nostromo

Image

Somewhat notorious album now, a series of deep pieces/atmospheres with all sounds supposedly sourced from the ambient noises of engines, etc. from the first Alien movie. The CD is a collection of tracks named after the decks of the Nostromo, going deeper and deeper, down to where the monsters lurk...this is a GREAT album for sleepytime.

Deep Frieze

Image

My favorite SRF release...

"The album is described as 'Ultra deep, glacial Dark Ambient, based around Antarctic co-ordinates' on the website of the record label, Cold Spring. Each of the five tracks is associated with a particular location in Antarctica."

Once again this is a beautiful album to fall asleep to. Well...of course it is.

Okay, when you deal with death industrial eventually you must come to Brighter Death Now, because he's the founder of the genre and still, arguably, the King of it. As I'm guessing most of you are already familiar with a lot of his work, I'll only post an old album and the newest one. I consider his latest (now a little bit old) to be the catchiest, most accessible PE/death industrial work ever, it's perfectly composed IMO. It's gorgeous. So:

Brighter Death Now

http://www.myspace.com/brighterdeathnow
http://www.coldmeat.se/

Brighter Death Now - Necrose Evangelicum

Image

Utterly astounding, inspiring, dark soundscapes/tormented vocals from Hell...

Blogsource: http://sickness-still-abounds.blogspot. ... licum.html
DL: http://rapidshare.com/files/135719643/B ... 7h_N0w.rar <-- 320k rip, perfect

Brighter Death Now - Kamikaze Kabaret

Image

IMO, the exact point where PE/death industrial moved out of the underground and became pop music while keeping its base aesthetics intact. This album is a masterpiece. Turn it up really loud and absorb everything that's going on beneath the vocals, the most obvious musical signifiers. Subversive as fuck, even now.
