Again, this campaign has been mind-blowingly tone deaf and seems ignorant of even the basics of decent and effective campaigning.

For those who don't know the basics, WHILE the attack at the Libyan embassy was still under way, Romney issued a harsh political statement blaming Obama for weakness and apologizing for tweets that were sent out from the Egyptian embassy (also attacked), at the time the protests were first starting (prior to the casualties in Libya) in response to some racist "blood libel" style video issued by nutso Jewish and Christian theocons, disavowing American endorsement of the message of that video, that essentially all Muslims drink blonde Christian women's baby's blood or some other pablum.

Romney issues this attack around 10:30pm last night, and then doubles down on his bs in the most smug manner possible this morning AFTER it was discovered that the ambassador and other diplomatic personnel were killed.

Read that this morning. I don't always agree with Sullivan, but his takedowns of Romney have been great to read. The response to his Newsweek article about Obama's critics all being dumb was also fun to read.

The one big advantage to being a boring candidate is that you give the appearance of calm and stability. But, suddenly, Romney seemed to want to go for a piquant mélange of dull and hotheaded. Virtually nobody seemed to think this was all that great a plan. The Romney campaign, according to CNN, helpfully passed out suggestions for supporters who might want to defend Mitt. (When asked whether he was too quick on the attack, loyalists were supposed to say: “No. It is never too soon to stand up for American values and interests.”)

That's the exact quote Romney himself gave yesterday, and it's the exact quote I heard from McCain this morning on NBC. I really hate politics sometimes.

It's really amazing how fucking out of touch this guy is. His magical 47% number here would also include veterans on disability, the elderly, the sick, etc. He sneers at them for wanting healthcare and food because he has never, ever in his life had to think for one moment about what it would be like not to have money to take care of that stuff.

Of all his so-called "gaffes" (I personally don't think many of the things he has said over the campaign should be categorized as gaffes cause he means them) I think the one that illustrates how out of touch he is better than any was his comment about how if you can't afford college, don't be afraid to ask your parents for the money. That's how badly his money has given him tunnel vision. In his mind, it's just a simple matter of asking mom and dad.

Still, Romney ignored a question about whether he really believes what he was saying. Asked if his words were reflective of his "core convictions," Romney simply walked away.
